In an uncommon act of political level-headedness, the Texas governor is doing something that ought to have been done almost an entire year ago now; taking back the keys to his state from paranoia and, what can only be described as at this point, superstition.

Let me tell you about Corona-chan:

Covid-19, like every other corona-virus strain on the planet – of which there are many – is very, very contagious. It's so contagious, that assuming the covid tests correctly identify carriers of that specific variant (which they don't), the sheer volume of host resiviours and vectors is so overwhelmingly vast – as it has been for many months – that containment is entirely impossible and has reached endemic levels. The Wuhan corona-virus, as it's been known to us for the past year and beyond, is not going away. Ever. It is now just another flu virus that you can and probably will get at some point. End of fucking story.

Cut it, print it.

Gregg Abbott, to his credit, seems to understand this well enough. He mentions something very important – personal responsibility. If you go out and get sick with anything in your day to day routine, guess who's fault it is? It's yours. Shocking, I know, but in what way is it even feasible to assume that someone who does get sick can trace the origin point of that disease to any business or residence in question? It isn't. The very notion of businesses being liable for coughs and sniffles is asinine. It was NEVER the case before 2020, but back then at least people managed to keep up the facade of having at least half of a brain.

If you know you're sick, or in some way feel like shit, don't go out. Wash your fucking hands when you go to take a shit or a piss. Wipe down stuff like gym equipment before you use it. All of these things should be common practice, but they aren't. And if the ass-clown powers that be had invested even a sliver of the porkish stimulus funds on hammering good hygiene methods into everyone's heads – because clearly everyone's dipshit parents couldn't be bothered to do so – this supposed crisis may have very well been over before it started. But, as we are all aware, you are hard-pressed to find a single, solitary thing not tainted by politics in this day and age.

Establishment jurisdictions are not afraid that Texas will fall into a fevered hellscape, they are wishing for it. What they are afraid of is Texas doing well and creating a stark contrast between their laissez-faire reopening and the commie-block style “papers, please” approach seen elsewhere. It's been a very educational year. Even I was completely blown away by how comically useless quarantines were. But scaring you into a hole and regulating your exit for an indeterminate length of time is exactly what misanthropic psychopaths with nice offices want. For them, a polite society is a scared society.

And I can already see the excuses, “W-Well, Texas is seeing fewer cases cuz they aren't doing enough testing. There are probably enough new cases now to justify a new lockdown. I ain't got shit to show your audience but look at my white lab coat and the concerned look on my face.” These people being the same people that changed their protocol every week last year. The sooner people realize that the people calling the shots are either evil or inept dipshits, the sooner we can make sure this rampant retardation doesn't happen again – for another few hundred years, at least.
