I sometimes can’t help but be impressed by how much time people have on their hand.

Here are some descriptions of Orcs, straight from the 5th edition monster manual’s mouth…

“Orcs are savage raiders and pillagers with stooped postures, low foreheads, and piggish faces with prominent lower canines that resemble tusks.”

“Such was the role of the orcs…to take and destroy all that the other races would deny them.”

“Orcs gather in tribes that exert their dominance and satisfy their bloodlust by plundering villages, devouring or driving off roaming herds, and slaying any humanoids that stand against them. After savaging a settlement, orcs pick it clean of wealth and items usable in their own lands. They set the remains of villages and camps ablaze, then retreat whence they came, their bloodlust satisfied.”

“Orcs build only for defense, making no innovation or improvement to their lairs beyond mounting the severed body parts of their victims on spiked stockade walls or pikes jutting up from moats and arid trenches.”

“Luthic, the orc goddess of fertility and wife of Gruumsh, demands that orcs procreate often and indiscriminately so that orc hordes swell generation after generation. The orcs' drive to reproduce runs stronger than any other humanoid race, and they readily crossbreed with other races. When an orc procreates with a non-orc humanoid of similar size and stature, the resulting child is either an orc or a half-orc. When an orc produces young with an ogre, the child is a half-ogre of intimidating strength and brutish features called an ogrillon.”

“How dare you say those things about black people!” screeched Twitter, only slightly dumber than it was yesterday.

Did the world just suddenly remember that Bright was a thing?

Does 40K get a pass because its orks (spelled with a k for some reason) have gruff British accents?

If your inclination is to associate rape-babies, savage violence, undeveloped frontal lobes, and the rare case of domestication by being raised in civilization with a particular group of people, then I think that says a little more about you than the material. Maybe it’s just projection. The social justice crowd does have a bizarre tendency to side with the evil side in a story and some of their women do kind of look like orcs so maybe they took it personally.

The Orc meme is a powerful one: An invading force of brutes with low IQs and high replacement rates being sent to raid the lands by powerful dark lords and spellcasters? Spicy.

But in all seriousness, who wouldn’t be racist against orcs? They want to kill you, take your shit, and give your descendants tusks. Same for goblins, honestly – but I recall twitter taking issue with Goblin Slayer too, and then Harry Potter in short order.

Don’t listen to them, Goblin Slayer, you’re doing God’s work.
