Un-Affirmative
So by essentially the same margin that California – California, mind you – outlawed affirmative action almost 30 years ago, and after all that demographic fuckery, the people there dicked it back down by exactly that same 55% rate. That’s…weird, right? Well, it could end up being even weirder potentially, but I’ll get to that in a second.
What must first be addressed in this case is that, despite the ballooning Hispanic population in California – Hispanic, of course, being a meaningless umbrella term for people who are not all ethnically homogenous and could, in fact, be from anywhere – and the actually marginalized people living outside of Los Angeles and San Francisco (the poop capitals of the US), that never seem to get what they want, this proposition STILL LOST. This could be due to a number of reasons, one of which being the sheer amount of Californians leaving the state who would no longer be residents to vote on the prop. But I think there’s a more interesting component as well.
There are people, many people – most of whom can be found with a checkmark next to their names on Twitter or with a stack of Reddit gold – that believe that those denominations of people who fall into the even more gelatinous classification of “People of Color” (a term that is literally just a slight variation of a term that is considered racist) have a since of solidarity with one another. What do East Asians, Pacific Islanders, Sub-Saharan Africans, South Asians, Meso Americans, and many middle easterners have in common? Not a whole lot, really. Except for a few – or lack there of – certain genotypical and phenotypical expressions. They aren’t white, in other words. There’s no blunter way of putting it. That really isn’t enough to get them to coalesce to any meaningful degree.
As much as the Circle-Jerk Media would like you to believe otherwise – as well as a number of rage-bait grift sites – there is an abundance of disharmonious rhetoric and cultural friction between the races. All of them, not just with white people. Have you heard what Koreans, Chinese, and Japanese people say about one another? Or Indians and Pakistanis? Or Hispanics and blacks? Or Scottish people and…other Scottish people? Hell, I think the old Polish and Italians families here in Michigan still have beef. In any case, people vote for – or at least what they believe to be – their self-interest. Or their tribe’s interest. Affirmative action in this particular case would unduly benefit African Americans and largely hinder everyone else. Affirmative action is a cancerous component of equity politics that disincentivizes meaningful effort and eliminates any and all concept of meritocracy. That’s why it failed. Even in the deep blue pit of San Diego county.
And don’t forget, California used Dominion machines too. It might be even less popular that that.
Seems things aren’t as far-gone as they look, wouldn’t you say?
We are 100% funded for October.
