Barry Zalma, Esq., CFE presents videos so you can learn how insurance fraud is perpetrated and what is necessary to deter or defeat insurance fraud. This Video Blog of True Crime Stories of Insurance Fraud with the names and places changed to protect the guilty are all based upon investigations conducted by me and fictionalized to create a learning environment for claims personnel, SIU investigators, insurers, police, and lawyers better understand insurance fraud and weapons that can be used to deter or defeat a fraudulent insurance claim.
If the arson investigators had more time to investigate; if the insurance company’s investigators were not overburdened; or if anyone had even tried, they would have learned what the old man told Susie two years later. He had broken out the window himself. He bought at the local Shell station a gallon of gas in a one gallon metal can. He told the attendant he needed fuel for his lawn mower. He then went down to the corner where the day laborers gathered every morning at 6:00 a.m. He selected the hungriest looking laborer and offered him $500 to cause a fire at Aunt Susie’s kitchen. He gave the laborer the gallon of gasoline.
No one was hurt. Only the insurance company, and all the people who bought insurance from that company, lost and Lady Justice remained blindfolded.
