• LIFE’S MOST IMPORTANT CHOICE
    READ JOSHUA 23:1 THROUGH 24:33
“But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15).

Serving the Lord has rarely been easy. For the Israelites of Joshua’s day, it meant being different from the people around them. It meant sacrificing their best to God. It meant giving up one day a week for rest and worship—a day when they could harvest crops, go to market, or party with friends. It could also mean going to war against Canaanites still occupying Israel.

For Christians today it can mean loss of a promotion, loss of friends, or taking an unpopular moral stand. That’s a small price to pay for a clear conscience, peace of mind and heart, God’s approval, and a reward in heaven.

A young aid worker martyred by a radical group wrote that her mother told her that in the end all you have is God. It’s true. He is all that really matters.

Challenge for Today: Choose to serve God.

You only THOUGHT the Bible was speaking of long lost, past civilizations! In all #Truth, their descendants continue every dark ritual and tradition TODAY!

The descendants of the "Money Changers" that Yahushua (Jesus) ran out of the Temple using a whip, saying that the house of worship had become a den of thieves..... Are today's "Elites"

11 And the multitude said, This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.

12 And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves,

13 And said unto them, It is written, My house shall be called the house of prayer; but ye have made it a den of thieves.

14 And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them.

15 And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the son of David; they were sore displeased,

16 And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?

17 And he left them, and went out of the city into Bethany; and he lodged there.

18 Now in the morning as he returned into the city, he hungered.

19 And when he saw a fig tree in the way, he came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.

20 And when the disciples saw it, they marvelled, saying, How soon is the fig tree withered away!

21 Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done.

22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive.

  • 15 SEPTEMBER (1878)

    Jesus

‘And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name Jesus: for he shall save his people from their sins.’ Matthew 1:21
    SUGGESTED FURTHER READING: Hebrews 4:1–16

Jesus and Joshua are the same word; Joshua is the Hebrew form and Jesus the Greek form. There was one of old who bore this famous name and who was a type of our Jesus. What did Joshua do? When Moses could not lead the people into Canaan, Joshua did it; and so our Jesus accomplishes what the law could never have done. Joshua overcame the enemies of God’s people: though they were very many and very strong, and had cities walled to heaven and chariots of iron, yet in the name of Jehovah, as captain of the Lord’s host, Joshua smote them. Even so does our glorious Joshua smite our sins and all the powers of darkness, and utterly destroys our spiritual enemies. Before him Amalek is smitten, Jericho falls and Canaanites are put to rout, while he gives us triumph in every place.

Moreover Joshua conquered an inheritance for Israel, took them across the Jordan, settled them in a land that flowed with milk and honey, and placed each tribe and each man in the lot which God had ordained for him. Precisely this is what our Jesus does, only our inheritance is more divine, and on each of us it is more surely entailed. Joshua could not give the people the heavenly Sabbatismos, or rest of the highest kind, yet he gave them rest most pleasant, so that every man sat ‘under his vine and under his fig tree’, none making him afraid; but our glorious Joshua has given us infinite, eternal rest, for ‘he is our peace’, and they that know him have entered into rest. Joshua, the son of Nun, caused the people to serve the Lord all his days, but he could not save the nation from their sins, for after his death they grievously went astray: our Joshua preserves to himself a ‘people, zealous of good works’, for ‘he ever liveth’ and ‘is able to keep’ them ‘from falling’.

FOR MEDITATION: (Our Own Hymn Book no.331 v.3—Charles Wesley, 1749)
    ‘Jesus the prisoner’s fetters breaks,
    And bruises Satan’s head;
Power into strengthless souls it speaks,
    And life into the dead.’

  • WHY DOES THE BIBLE SAY TO NOT BOIL A BABY GOAT IN ITS MOTHER’S MILK?
    Bible Study / Daily Devotional
    Daily Devotions
Average reading time is about 5 and a half minutes

It’s not always easy to understand certain Old Testament laws because the purpose for them is unclear to us. That’s why it is important to study the context of the passage and other Bible verses that pertain to the topic. We can also learn more about a Bible verse by understanding the culture in which the people lived at that time.

Archaeologists have discovered interesting texts in ancient Syria that explains that boiling a sacrificial young goat in their mother’s milk was a ritual practice of the Canaanites. This was the heathen nation that practiced so many abominable things that God commanded Israel to “utterly destroy” them (Deuteronomy 20:17). The Israelites only partially carried out this commission.

Another horrible practice in Canaanite worship to the god Molech was to sacrifice children by having them “pass through the fire” (Deuteronomy 18:10). The Lord wanted to protect His people from these ghastly ceremonies. “When you come into the land which the Lord your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominations of those nations” (v. 9).

God did not want His people to follow heathen rituals. It was His desire to have a clear line of separation from the idolatry of these nations. “Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation” (Exodus 19:5, 6).

Some have suggested this Canaanite idolatrous ritual worked to break down the sacredness of the family, even in the animal world. Parents should protect their children, not offer them as sacrifices to some evil god. There is to be a distinction in how Christians live. “ ‘They shall be Mine,’ says the Lord of hosts, ‘on that day that I make them My jewels. And I will spare them as a man spares his own son who serves him’ ” (Malachi 3:17).
    KEY BIBLE TEXTS
Ye shall not eat of anything that dieth of itself: thou shalt give it unto the stranger that is in thy gates, that he may eat it; or thou mayest sell it unto an alien: for thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God. Thou shalt not seethe a kid in his mother's milk. Deuteronomy 14:21

    MISSION ACCOMPLISHED
    READ 2 KINGS 9:1 THROUGH 10:36
Following Israel’s division into two kingdoms, idolatry entered the Northern Kingdom. First, Jeroboam established a religion based on the worship of twin calf images. Later, Ahab introduced Baal worship—a fertility cult practiced by the Canaanites. God commissioned Jehu to eliminate this idolatry.

“You are to destroy the house of Ahab your master, and I will avenge the blood of my servants the prophets and the blood of all the Lord’s servants shed by Jezebel” (2 Kings 9:7).

Israel had become unfaithful to God, and it experienced the terrible consequences of its disobedience. The prophets of Baal had persecuted the prophets of the god, and now the false prophets were going to reap what they had sown.

Jehu displayed aggressiveness, fearlessness, and determination—all necessary qualities for a mission of this kind. With God’s help he accomplished his mission.

Everyone has a God-given mission that fits their skills and personalities. The Holy Spirit empowers people to exceed their natural abilities.

Today’s Challenge: Be faithful and fulfill your mission.

This witness from the 1905 edition records the connection between modern day Jews and the race of Edom: "Some anthropologists are inclined to associate the racial origins of the Jews, not with the Semites, whose language they adopted, but with the Armenians and Hittites of Mesopotamia, whose broad skulls and curved noses they appear to have inherited (Vol. X, p. 284). Thus Esau/Edom was now absorbed into the Canaanite people by means of his Hittite and Hivite wives. According to Strong's Concordance the word Canaan means "trader or merchant" and the Phoenicians, as Canaanites, are derived from Ham's incestuous relationship with Naamah the sister of Tubalcain, the wife Noah took with him in the Ark (Genesis 9:18-27; 10:6, 15-19).

  • A small bit from something I was just reading:
Ulrich Zwingli, Letter to Oswald Myconius, July 24, 1520

We Christians will never lack people who persecute Christ in us, even though they make a show of coming themselves in the name of Christ. Genuine Christians, however, are those who have the mark by which Christ indicated he would acknowledge his own, when he said that everyone will recognize that you are my disciples when you keep my commandments (John 13:35; 15:14). Those who obey human law more than the divine plainly lack the sign of Christ, because they give priority to their own commandments over those of Christ.

When you are molested by those people, then, it is grist for your mill; think of them as the flies of Egypt, as the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Amorites, the Hittites, and the Jebusites who wish to draw you over to their side. They allow you to win the crown when you fight against them. Human life on earth is like military service. Armed with the weapons of Paul, those who will earn honor for themselves must fight bravely in the frontline if, with three bright stones, they wish to dash to the ground a world that has elevated itself like Goliath (1 Sam 17:49).
