It’s Springtime on Mars, and the Dunes are Defrosting
Nothing says springtime on Mars like defrosting dunes. In Mars’ northern hemisphere, springtime has arrived, and observations from the HiRISE (High Resolution Imaging Experiment) onboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter has captured partially defrosted dunes on the western slope of dunes inside Kaiser Crater. In the winter, the dark sand dunes are covered in a blanket … Continue reading "It’s Springtime on Mars, and the Dunes are Defrosting"

    Bible Study / Daily Devotional

Average reading time is about 5 and a half minutes
AN AMAZING FACT: We all know that when humans and other mammals freeze, it results in frostbite or death, but God has given some species of snakes and frogs, which live in very cold climates, the ability to survive being frozen! This capacity is not fully understood but is achieved by two possible mechanisms. One is called “freezing tolerance” where the body is able to survive freezing and the destructive ice formation in tissue cells followed by thawing. This is very rare. The other more common condition is “freeze avoidance” or “supercooling.” In this process, the body contains substances such as glycerol which acts like a natural antifreeze and prevents ice formation in tissue cells.

For instance, below frozen lakes and ponds, painted turtles can stay submerged and motionless for as long as three months, but they never actually freeze. It’s still a mystery how they can survive in this state of suspended animation for so long with zero blood oxygen! Humans, by contrast, begin to suffer irreversible nerve damage if oxygen to the brain is cut off for more than four minutes.

Freezing will kill many cold-blooded species. But there are some amphibians and reptiles that hibernate at or near the soil surface where temperatures can drop substantially below the freezing point of their body fluids. These creatures have the amazing ability to endure the freezing of water in extracellular body compartments. In fact, among some frogs, as much as 65% of their total body water may be converted to ice. In this state, they can survive days or weeks of sub-zero conditions. When the spring thaw comes, the spark of life activates their muscles and they appear to return to life as if resurrected.

Since God can design cells that survive freezing, it’s easier to believe He can order the molecules of a dead body to be reconstituted. Millions find it difficult to believe in the resurrection. But if you know the power of God in your own life, if you have experienced His re-creative power in your heart, you will be convinced that He truly is the giver of life.
    KEY BIBLE TEXTS
And when he thus had spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. John 11:43And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go. John 11:44

    How to keep the heart

“The peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:7
    SUGGESTED FURTHER READING: Mark 4:35–41

Cast your troubles where you have cast your sins; you have cast your sins into the depth of the sea, there cast your troubles also. Never keep a trouble half an hour on your own mind before you tell it to God. As soon as the trouble comes, quick, the first thing, tell it to your Father.

Remember, that the longer you take telling your trouble to God, the more your peace will be impaired. The longer the frost lasts, the more thick the ponds will be frozen. Your frost will last till you go to the sun; and when you go to God—the sun, then your frost will soon become a thaw, and your troubles will melt away. But do not be long, because the longer you are in waiting, the longer will your trouble be in thawing afterwards. Wait a long while till your trouble gets frozen thick and firm, and it will take many a day of prayer to get your trouble thawed again. Away to the throne as quick as ever you can. Do as the child did, when he ran and told his mother as soon as his little trouble happened to him; run and tell your Father the first moment you are in affliction.

Do this in everything, in every little thing—“in everything by prayer and supplication” make known your wants unto God. Take your husband’s headache, take your children’s sicknesses, take all things, little family troubles as well as great commercial trials—take them all to God; pour them all out at once. And so by an obedient practice of this command in everything making known your wants unto God, you shall preserve that peace “which shall keep your heart and mind through Jesus Christ.”

FOR MEDITATION: If the God of peace is with you (Philippians 4:9), you have open access to the peace of God—but check carefully all the conditions in Philippians 4:6.
