California state Assemblyman Vince Fong won the special election to fill the remainder of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy's term as representative for California's 20th Congressional District, according to CNN projections. With backing from former President Donald Trump, Fong through January, helping to maintain the GOP's narrow majority in the House. McCarthy, who resigned in December after being removed as speaker, had backed Fong as his successor.
