A possible US government shutdown at the end of the year would not affect the country's rating, Richard Francis, a senior director at Fitch, said in a podcast on Wednesday.
According to Francis, a shutdown would not impact Fitch's rating because the country's "deteriorating governance" has already been reflected in Fitch's August downgrade.
Moreover, he added that the ouster of the House Speaker signals that political tensions over government funding negotiations remain high. Therefore, "a shutdown later this year can't be ruled out."
