United States House Speaker Kevin McCarthy urged the Senate to put the American people's necessities first, not Ukraine's when sketching the proposal for the stopgap bill.

"After meeting with House Republicans this evening, it's clear the misguided Senate bill has no path forward and is dead on arrival," McCarthy wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter. "The House will continue to work around the clock to keep government open and prioritize the needs of the American people."

Previously, President Joe Biden accused McCarthy of having made "a terrible bargain" with the Republican members of the House of Representatives who have a more conservative approach to the economy to stay in his position.
