When talking about Christianity, people focus on the part about having our sins forgiven. Another part is, God through the Holy Spirit molds the forgiven person into a different type of person. If you think you gave yourself to Jesus Christ, but you were not changed into another type of person, you better take a deeper look at yourself. Every person who has the Holy Spirit genuinely dwelling inside of him is changed into a person who is focused on God daily; the person will also strive to find and do the will of God daily. This change in a person life is how we are to identify who is a genuine Christian. This change will not happen unless we genuinely have the Holy Spirit dwelling inside of us.
There are three daily parts of interacting with God: prayer; prayerfully reading and studying the Bible; and wholeheartedly praising God to his face (speaking praises directly to God from the bottom of our heart). Often, people miss the great need for praising God. Genuinely praising God from the bottom of our heart holds great power, and will accomplish great things. One of the greatest things you can do for a closer walk with God is to get down on your knees, lift your hand up towards God, and praise God out loud with all your heart, daily (this may be done in private).
