GOD'S WORD FOR TODAY
DAILY DEVOTIONAL
WARNINGS AND JUDGMENT
READ 2 KINGS 24:1 THROUGH 25:30
Although God loved Judah, the nation’s sin reached a point at which God had to bring punishment.
The Lord sent bands of Babylonian, Aramean, Moabite, and Ammonite raiders against Judah to destroy it, just as the Lord had promised through his prophets (2 Kings 24:2).
The judgment God brought on Judah should not have been surprising to the people. God had repeatedly warned them of His impending judgment. When God warns people about the looming consequences of their behavior, He is giving them a chance to repent, avert the disaster, and experience restoration. Unfortunately, Judah let its chance slip away.
God combines mercy and faithfulness in ways that humans can’t fully comprehend. But everyone can be sure of this: Eventually, the time for repentance will run out and God will keep His promises of judgment.
The only way to escape God’s judgment is to accept the forgiveness Jesus offers and to follow Him. If you have not made this choice, do so today.
Challenge for Today: Ask God to reveal any sin that exists in your life and ask God to bring personal and national revival.
