LIVING RIGHT
READ 2 KINGS 14:1 THROUGH 16:20
Jotham did what was pleasing in the Lord’s sight. He did everything his father, Uzziah, had done

(2 Kings 15:34).

In this verse, the transliteration of the word “right” is “yashar.” The definition of “yashar” includes “straight, upright, correct, right, pleasing, proper.” The Lord evaluated Jotham’s activities and declared them right.

Jotham’s father set the example for living a life worthy of the Lord. Surrounded by the ungodly activities of his own people and of other countries, Uzziah laid a different foundation for his family, and Jotham followed suit. God’s declaration proves the importance of parents being the pattern of godliness for their children. Some may become people who influence nations.

This affirmation of God should be the goal of all people. It can be achieved by accepting Jesus, for apart from Him none can live right. With the power given by God, believers receive strength to live godly lives. Through Jesus, the Father looks at His children and sees “yashar.”

Prayer Suggestion: Help me to walk in a way that reflects the “yashar” of Jesus.
