GOD'S WORD FOR TODAY
DAILY DEVOTIONAL
HE WILL ESTABLISH
READ 1 KINGS 7:1–51
Solomon was building the temple his father David had designed. The descriptions of the building give us a picture of how marvelous and beautiful it must have been. It was filled with symbolism. Skilled workers created extravagant decor of bronze, silver, gold, and jewels. God’s temple must have been a sight to behold.

Huram set the pillars at the entrance of the Temple, one toward the south and one toward the north. He named the one on the south Jakin, and the one on the north Boaz (1 Kings 7:21).

The names of those two shiny bronze pillars that would stand at the doorway to the temple had special meaning. No one could pass in or out of the temple door without being overwhelmed by the sight of these giant pillars shimmering in the sun. They did not lend structural support. They were there as reminders. Boaz means, “In Him is strength,” and Jakin means, “He will establish.” God is the one who establishes and strengthens His people. They must depend on Him alone and not on themselves.

Challenge for Today: Think of those bronze pillars as you walk into God’s house this week.
