GOD'S WORD FOR TODAY
DAILY DEVOTIONAL
PLANNED SHARING
READ LEVITICUS 22:1 THROUGH 23:44
“When you harvest the crops of your land, do not harvest the grain along the edges of your fields, and do not pick up what the harvesters drop. Leave it for the poor and the foreigners living among you. I am the Lord your God” (Leviticus 23:22).
While Israel was in the wilderness being fed manna from the Lord, God spoke to them about a time when they would plant their own crops and reap their own harvests. God’s promise was secure. The children of God would have fields and vineyards. These blessings, however, were not to be hoarded. The people were to imitate the generosity of God and share with those in need.
Like the Israelites, people today are tempted to keep the blessings of God for themselves. But God commands intentional, selfless sharing. Jesus said that the poor would always be present in society (Matthew 26:11). God wants His children to make plans to help the poor. To see someone who is in need and to use the blessings of God to make a difference is one way God asks His children to honor Him.
Challenge for Today: Love your neighbor who is in need. Share God’s blessings with them.
