GOD'S WORD FOR TODAY
DAILY DEVOTIONAL
GOD’S GRUMBLING CHILDREN
READ EXODUS 13:1 THROUGH 15:27
A story is told of a woman who grumbled about everything and everyone. Then one year, her potato crop was bountiful. Her minister thought that finally the woman would say something positive. He said, “Everyone’s saying how nice your potato crop is this year.”

The woman frowned at the minister and said, “Yes, but where are the bad potatoes to feed the pigs?”

The Israelites also focused on what they lacked rather than on God’s blessings.

Then the people complained and turned against Moses. “What are we going to drink?” they demanded (Exodus 15:24).

God had brought His children out of slavery in Egypt. He had led them across the Red Sea to freedom. He had saved them from the Egyptian army. But it wasn’t long until their praises changed to complaining. Grumbling happens when people focus on problems instead of God’s blessings.

The next time you are tempted to grumble, take a few moments to tally your blessings and then begin thanking God for them.

Challenge for Today: Offer God thanks and praise, no matter what challenges you face.
