GOD'S WORD FOR TODAY
DAILY DEVOTIONAL
OMNIPOTENT GOD
READ EXODUS 7:1 THROUGH 9:35
From the beginning of time, there have been those whose minds seemed to be focused on using their power for evil purposes. Pharaoh was one of those people. He made slaves of the Israelites who were in bondage in his country of Egypt.

When God sent the plagues, Pharaoh’s magicians were able to duplicate them for a while. However, there came a time when the magicians were not able to keep up.

Pharaoh’s magicians tried to do the same thing with their secret arts, but this time they failed (Exodus 8:18).

It seems by this time Pharaoh would have admitted that God was more powerful, but he wouldn’t surrender his pride. Pharaoh continued resisting God.

There were times when it appeared that Pharaoh’s heart was softening and that he might allow the Israelites the freedom to go into the desert to worship their God. But as the sun hardens clay that was once pliable, Pharaoh’s heart was also hardened. It would take other plagues before this man acknowledged the omnipotent God.

Pharaoh learned what Christians know: no power is greater than God.

Thought for Today: Has your heart become hardened in any way toward God?

Quicklook: Exodus 8:16–19
