The Russian Foreign Ministry condemned Japan's "militarization" plans in a statement released on Thursday, saying the government's $320 billion defense plan will spark fresh tensions across the Asia-Pacific region.
"It is clear that Tokyo embarked on the path of an unprecedented build-up of its own military power, including the acquisition of strike potential," the ministry's spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said, warning that the plans will "inevitably provoke new security challenges."
