US, Japan, S. Korea agree to help Taiwan 'defend itself' United States Deputy Secretary of State Wendy Sherman (pictured right) after a meeting with her Japanese and South Korean counterparts on Wednesday said Washington agreed to work with the two countries to ensure Taiwan can defend itself against China. After the meeting, Japanese Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Takeo Mori (pictured center) noted that Beijing's behavior in the South and East China Seas has remained unchanged. The three senior diplomats held trilateral talks in Tokyo with a focus on North Korea's nuclear threats and ways to deal with Pyongyang's series of missile launches. In the consultations, South Korea's First Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs Cho Hyun-dong (pictured left) called for an "unprecedented strong response" in case the North completes its seventh nuclear test.
