One of my very favorite shots. I have always loved this flying work of art. When I lived in Boeing country in the Pacific Northwest I was inspired by some aviation photography I had seen so I set out to create something in my style. I even got a chance to meet legendary Blackbird pilot and fellow photographer Brian Shul. Recently sold a copy of this. Definitely one of my favorite pix. When I set shots up I take a few exposure tests to get all the lighting down. I completely blew this one out and the famous "Black" bird glowed ghostly white. It looked even more vaguely alien than it normally does. My typical reaction to a grossly exposed shot is to make the necessary adjustments but this is what is called a "happy accident". It looked strangely alluring and mysterious. I decided to keep things as they were. And oddly enough despite the plane looking most excellent, what really makes this shot is my model's wry, daring expression. Recently sold a copy of this. The outlandish SR71 Blackbird that flew 3x the speed of sound 15 miles in the sky and the Wright Brothers Flyer are separated by only 60 years. Can you believe that? Securing a Blackbird for this shot was... an interesting challenge. The Flyer? The National Air and Space Museum turned me down.
