  • Brittney Griner is a WNBA basketball star, two time Olympic gold medalist and LGBTQ icon among other things…

After coming out coming out as lesbian in 2013, the limelight followed.

    The agendas are as follows:

Griner was endorsed by Nike in 2013, becoming the first “openly gay athlete” to be endorsed by the apparel giant.

In 2020, Griner called for the WNBA to stop playing the National Anthem before games in protest of the killing of Breonna Taylor as part of the wider George Floyd protests.

On Feb 17, 2022 Griner was detained and arrested on smuggling charges by Russian Customs. WNBA team, Phoenix Mercury worked with Griners foundation “BG’s Heart & Sole Shoe Drive” during the absence to ensure its impact on the community continued.

On December 8, 2022 Brittney was released in a prisoner exchange for Russians arms dealer Viktor Bout.

Griner believes in pushing back on traditional gender roles, championing for LGBTQ+ community and does not believe in playing the National Anthem before sporting events.
