The Consent of the Governed: What is an Election? "Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed" In this single statement lives heart and soul of this Republic. It is the basis for the authority and responsibilities invested in government at every level. What happens to society if there is not enough honor or integrity to hold on to this simple idea? What authority does government really have when the basis for that government no longer exists? The election process is not just something we do every 2 years because it is tradition and in the Constitution. It is the process by which each citizen takes a portion of their personal sovereignty, liberty, authority and "Temporarily Lends" it to whom ever the constituency of a given office has the most support. That person is "hired" to use that "Lent Authority" for the benefit of the people they represent. Any person, organization, or gathering of people whose purpose is to defraud each of us of our personal authority is simply not qualified for public service. It should be considered one of the worst crimes for a society built on the consent of its citizens.
