Technology, The Information Age, and Perception: C-008 Trust and the Election Process
Ever 2 years the United State goes though the process of choosing those who will represent us. It is the only time in which ones opinion actually counts. It is the most powerful form of speech. Voting Speech. Unlike ordinary "Opinion Speech", it is limited to one opinion per ballot. With the level of trust in media, our institutions, the very folks elected. How does one know that your vote was counted? Do you get a receipt allowing one to track their vote? Does one even know if the selection made is the way the vote was counted? With all the dialog about fraud, mail in voting, deceased voting, etc.. There is no dialog about the voters right to insure that their vote is legitimately applied. We have all this technology and no one has thought to use it to force accountability into the most important activity of society. Where are the voters rights? Where are our elected officials protecting the rights of their constituency? Have any of them even considered this?
