The waves at Nazaré can reach heights of over 100 feet (30 meters), making it one of the premier destinations for extreme surfing.

Nazaré is situated in the district of Leiria and is approximately 120 kilometers (75 miles) north of Lisbon, the capital city of Portugal. The main surfing area for these giant waves is Praia do Norte, a beach just north of the town of Nazaré. The unique underwater canyon, known as the Nazaré Canyon, amplifies the size of the waves, creating the extraordinary surfing conditions the area is famous for.
