The Japanese space agency JAXA has announced that it has lost contact with the Akatsuki space probe. Akatsuki was launched in 2010 with the mission to orbit Venus. However, due to a failure in its orbital insertion, the probe was unable to achieve its intended orbit around Venus. This was subsequently attributed to either bad engineering or a malfunction
