A Blast From the Past: Roseburg, Oregon 1959.
In 1959 I was just shy of 5 years old. We had barely returned home from vacationing with my maternal grandparents who lived on the south side of Roseburg at the time; when we heard the devastating news.
The blast was caused by a truck loaded with explosives parked next to a lumber company that caught fire. The heat from the fire detonated the explosives and destroyed most of the downtown business district. Initial reports nationwide suspected an attack from communist Russia.
