@kuc_bignews on Instagram: "SERIOUS POST- I know a lot of you have followed this account for the memes and the niche humor that comes with being an Austin resident. I get that and I appreciate it. If you will bear with me, I would like to share something personal. I have been working at YouTube Music for almost three years, and most people would say "wow thats a really cool tech job, i bet you get paid a lot." Truth of the matter is, we get paid $19 an hour here with awful benefits that come out of our paycheck and a restrictive PTO policy. This is simply not enough to live with any kind of comfortability in this city which is, across the board, significantly increasing its average cost of living year by year. This is why we unionized. We banded together to hopefully make a change- to have the ability to negotiate our working conditions and our pay. For the first two years of me working at YTM I worked remote and the job was not bad. We consistently met quality targets and I could save money by not driving to work every day/making food at home/etc. I am also lucky enough to not have any dependents or extreme debts. This made the job at least manageable. But as soon as we unanimously unionized, Cognizant and Google - our joint employers as determined by the National Labor Relations Board (twice now) - illegally changed our working conditions without negotiating with the union. They continued to change working conditions illegally over and over again without allowing the union to have a say. We have filed numerous ULPs to the NLRB, however they have yet to be ruled on due to the backlog the NLRB has at the moment. Today, without any prior notice or warning, our entire team was laid off. Google and Cognizant have profited immensely off of our labor and consequently -for lack of a better word- fucked us. As we were leaving the premises- members of HR physically assaulted our coworkers to remove them from the premises as they packed their personal items, leaving bruises and scratch marks. This is completely unacceptable. Fuck @cognizant and fuck @google I ask that you please share this to bring attention to our struggle. I will post more as updates come in. Thank you."
