Everyone wondered why Pruitt-Igoe failed. It failed partially because of Socialism and because of the people that lived there. Overall, it was humanity failing. Mostly it was proof that socialism doesn't work:

- Pruitt-Igoe would only allow single parents to move into the project.
- The white families moved out shortly after the segregation ended (yes, the people in that city were racist).
- They didn't allow land-lines (phones).
- No TVs (TVs were allowed later in the "program" of the project).
- If you act up, you get restrained by security (later this wasn't a problem as they had no money to pay security, so there was no security).
- You live by the rules of the project (the rules were oppressive, but not a problem later as no security).
- Everyone lived on welfare and food stamps (again, part of the great Socialist experiment).
- Rent was raised due to so many moving out, and maintenance costs going up due to vandalism (from the residents and non-residents), and the loss of rent money
- At the end, some paid 3/4ths of their income to live at Pruitt-Igoe.

Now, those that actually wanted to work couldn't at the time because of the city's racism, but what the racists complained mostly about the projects was the crime, but if they allowed them to work, the crime would've been minimal to moderate.

Why do I say moderate? I say moderate because Socialism breeds laziness. That's why Socialism and Communism always fails. Why work when everything is handed to you?

I had listed that vandalism was done by residents. This is true. All renters vandalize the properties that they live on, they think that their landlords will just fix it because they pay rent. Stupid mentality. That's what causes rent to go up. In this case, that's what caused their rent to go up, and the HUD stopped fixing their shit. Combine that with rental money loss, and there's no money to fix shit.

So why did Pruitt-Igoe fail? It was a combination of the Residents, Big Government, and stupidity.
