ELBERTON, Ga. — An overnight incident at a mysterious Georgia monument has led to an active police investigation in Elberton, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.
Local media outlets are reporting that parts of the Georgia Guidestones appear to have tumbled. GDOT has closed down roads in the area as local and state police investigate.
The 19-foot-tall granite monument, which is sometimes referred to as an “American Stonehenge,” was erected in 1980 in Elbert County. The rock slabs that make up the monument are inscribed in eight modern languages and are astronomically aligned.
