Teju Jagua is one of the seven legendary monsters of the Guaraní mythology, and he is the first son of Kerana and Tau. He is the least dangerous of Tau and Kerana's cursed sons. Tau's decedent's were forever cursed to be monstrous by Arasy as his punishment for raping Kerana.

Teju Jagua is said to be a gigantic lizard with seven dog heads and eyes that shoot out fire. Out of all his siblings he was the most horrid appearing. Some versions of the myth say that Teju Jagua has only one giant dog head. However, all versions of the myth agree that he has a limited ability to move around due to his giant body. (His skin became shiny after rolling around in the gold and precious stones of Itapé)

His ferocity was tempered by choice of Tupã, an entity of Brazilian mythology. Teju Jagua was left calm and harmless, though he was still feared for his fiery gaze.

He feeds on fruit and his favorite, honey given to him by his brother Yasy Yateré. A protector of buried treasure, he was also considered lord of the caves and protector of fruit.
