Saxophonist and Saturday Night Live's Music Director Lenny Pickett presents A Short March into the Future—elegiac and contrapuntal music with roots in R&B and electronic music featuring 12 musicians playing without amplification.
The ensemble includes two tubas, three saxophones, (doubling clarinets) two trumpets (doubling flugelhorns), accordion, piano, six-string banjo, upright bass, mallets, drums and percussion. The fourteen pieces vary in length from one to seven minutes.
This program is dedicated to Hal Willner.
