V for Vendetta is a 2005 film about a totalitarian dictatorship that gains its power thanks to an alleged virus spreading throughout the world. To maintain its full control over society, the dictatorship capitalizes on exploiting the pandemic and creates a culture of constant fear. In the film, corporate media pushes daily fear-based propaganda on the TV of every household. The authoritarian dictator of this dystopian society promises safety and security in return for the surrender of people's liberties. The "this is for your safety" creed is repeated throughout the film. The film ends with society finally waking up and dismantling the fascist regime through a brave act of mass rebellion. The film demonstrates how fear is a crowd-control tactic. It reveals that mass fear is the ticket to destroy civil rights because for as long as enough people can be frightened, all citizens can be ruled.
