The first criminal trial of a former United States president will begin today at 10 am ET with the jury selection in the case in which Donald Trump is charged over alleged hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels. Trump was indicted by a grand jury in New York in March last year on 34 counts of of falsifying business records in the first degree in an effort to "conceal crimes that hid damaging information from the voting public during the 2016 presidential election." He is accused of instructing his then-lawyer Michael Cohen to pay $130,000 to Daniels 12 days before the 2016 election to keep her quiet about their alleged affair.

Former United States President Donald Trump raised $50.5 million for his 2024 campaign at a fundraiser event in Palm Beach, Florida, breaking all previous fundraiser records of all Republican and Democrat presidential candidates, the Republican National Committee (RNC) said in a statement. "The success of tonight's event is proving what we already know: Americans are fed up with Biden's record of failure, from the open southern border and sky-high inflation to the migrant crime crisis that has made everyone less safe," RNC Chairman Michael Whatley and Co-Chairman Lara Trump noted. Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen, a Republican, showed a willingness on April 2 to back legislation that would potentially prevent President Joe Biden from getting one of the state’s electoral votes. He did this by endorsing a statewide “winner-takes-all” system that is likely to boost former President Donald Trump. Unlike every other U.S. state, only Nebraska and Maine assign Electoral College votes by district. A congressional district that centers around Omaha, the largest city in the state, has sometimes gone in favor of Democratic presidential candidates, including in 2020. However, if the state switched to a more standard system, Nebraska’s three electoral votes would likely all go to President Trump as the former president easily won the GOP-dominated state by wide margins in both 2016 and 2020.
