Dear God, thank You for Your mercies and steadfast love. Thank You for a new day and a unique opportunity to fill my heart with Your Word. Father, help me to stay focused and remain appreciative when things become challenging with my day, my health, or my relationships. Father, help me to remain persistent in being grateful, even for the smallest of things. Allow my mind to see past the challenges and stay focused on my goals so that I can finish my day with confidence and peace. Amen.

Dear Lord, I thank You for sending Your Holy Spirit to me in my time of need. Thank You for allowing me to come to You at any time and find a peace that this world cannot give me. Remind me that when trouble strikes, I don't have to go through any of it alone or in despair. You are always with me. You will comfort and strengthen me. Life is hard sometimes, but You remind me that You have already overcome every challenge or obstacle I will face—You have won the victory. Thank You, Jesus, for giving up everything for me, for dying on the cross to win that victory. No matter how hard things get, I can be confident in Your love for me. I can stand strong in the hope and the courage and the strength You give me. God, give me a wise heart—a heart that turns to You in times of need, rather than seeking worldly answers that only leave me empty. Help me to hold onto Your magnificent promises, whenever I feel overwhelmed. Remind me that You are with me and that together we will accomplish tremendous feats for Your Kingdom and Your glory. In the name of Jesus, Amen.

    The Blessing of Forgiveness
    Read Luke 11:1–54

Mary and Ruth sang in their church choir. However, their relationship was anything but harmonious. Mary resented Ruth for telling lies about her in the past. This resentment grew to anger and eventually hatred.

One Sunday the pastor preached on loving our enemies. He said the best way to deal with enemies is to pray for them and forgive.

“Forgive us our sins, for we also forgive those who sins against us. And don’t let us yield to temptation” (Luke 11:4).

That evening as she tried to pray, Mary’s thoughts were conflicting. Finally, Mary asked God’s forgiveness and prayed for Ruth.

The next day while shopping, Mary met Ruth and asked about her health. Ruth burst into tears and shared emotions of fear and anxiety with Mary. That was the beginning of a twenty-year friendship between Mary and Ruth. Because Mary had chosen to love and pray for her enemy, she was blessed with the joy of having Ruth as a sister in Christ.

Challenge for Today: Forgive everyone who has wronged you.

    Hope in the Midst
    Read Lamentations 1:1 through 5:22

The Book of Lamentations was also written by Jeremiah. In the Book of Jeremiah, the prophet recorded God’s imminent judgment against kingdoms and nations. In Lamentations, Jeremiah recorded his grieving over the destruction of Jerusalem and the exile of its people to Babylon. The book is structured as a funeral dirge. Each year this book was read aloud to the exiles, reminding them of the circumstances and choices that brought them to that place. In the midst of this lament, God crafted one of the most hope-filled Scriptures found in the Old Testament.

The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning (Lamentations 3:22–23).

These words of God have survived across centuries, cultures, and the rise and fall of nations to cut through the darkness and deliver hope. They are not mere descriptors or pretty phrases—they are the heart of God toward His people.

Prayer Suggestion: Pray for opportunity to share God’s hope with those in distress.

    What’s Your Cause?
    Read Jeremiah 51:1–64

Everyone needs a cause, a reason to get up in the morning, something worth fighting or even dying for. Some people spend their lives protecting animals or fighting against those who harm the environment. Their motivation varies, as does their dedication. Some abandon a cause rather quickly, but God does not.

This is what the Lord says to Jerusalem: “I will be your lawyer and plead your case, and I will avenge you” (Jeremiah 51:36).

The children of Israel had a cause, but many of them didn’t even know it. It wasn’t a cause they necessarily chose, but they were a part of it, regardless. God chose the Jewish people as His nation, a people set apart. Through God’s goodness toward them, others would see the loving-kindness of God. That was the plan, but the people lost interest in the one true God and began copying their neighbors by serving idols. So God used Babylon as an instrument of punishment to refocus them. When serving the one true and holy God became their cause, God promised to defend and avenge them.

Thought for Today: Are you as passionate for God as others are for their causes?
