On the 16th of December 1997, an Air Canada regional jet approaching New Brunswick’s capital city attempted to abort a misaligned approach amid darkness and freezing fog. But as the pilots pulled up to climb away, the stall warning activated, the plane slewed hard to the right, and the nose slammed suddenly to the ground, sending the plane careening off the side of the runway and into a snowbound forest, where it slammed into a tree and ground to a halt. Inside the plane, the tree cut a path of destruction through several rows of seats, trapping passengers in the wreckage. Despite the disaster, the 42 people on board survived.
