On this day 60 years ago, 46-year-old Albert Camus died in a car crash in Villeblevin, France. He was a French philosopher, author, and journalist. He won the Nobel Prize in Literature at the age of 44 in 1957, the second-youngest recipient in history. Camus was born in Algeria to French parents. He spent his childhood in a poor neighborhood and later studied philosophy at the University of Algiers.
Albert Camus' famous quote about the best way for dealing with an unfree world by being absolutely free is NOT what schools, religion, and the media teach us at all. We are taught the exact opposite, actually. From an early age, we're taught that obedience is a virtue. Bowing down to authorities on command is precisely what religion and schools teach us. Obedience is foundational to the purpose behind religions and schools.
It's very true that we now, in 2021, enjoy far more conveniences than our ancestors ever dreamt of, but in contrast, they enjoyed far more liberty and freedom than we can ever fathom. We now have fewer liberties than ever in the history of humanity.
We are now living in the unfree world that Albert Camus warned us about. And there's only one solution to it. Revolution is the only solution.
