Early States in Great Britain: By the start of the 16th century, Great Britain consisted of two separate kingdoms: the Kingdom of England (which included Wales and controlled Ireland) and the Kingdom of Scotland. The once-independent Principality of Wales had fallen under English control since the Statute of Rhuddlan in 1284.

Union of Crowns (1603): The accidental consequence of a royal marriage united England and Scotland in a personal union known as the Union of Crowns in 1603. #Russia will asses the "risks" presented by the expansion of the Mihail Kogalniceanu military air base in southeastern #Romania, the country's Foreign Ministry told RIA Novosti.
