  • "Now with respect to that theology it was not, nor is it now, monolithic; not everybody in the charismatic movement shares exactly the same theological understanding of it. Yet at the same time, there are some basic ingredients that have become pretty much central to neo-Pentecostal theology. And I am not going to deal with all of them today, but one of the most significant aspects of the emerging charismatic theology was the idea that it is normal, or even normative, for people to have what is understood as the “Baptism of the Holy Spirit” after their conversion. It is admitted that some people can have conversion or regeneration simultaneously with the so called “second blessing,” or the baptism of the Holy Spirit. But in the main, the usual normal process is understood to have some kind of time differential between conversion or regeneration, and the receiving of the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Now, it’s that particular point that I want to address today, because I think the fundamental weakness of neo-Pentecostal, or charismatic theology, is that, in my opinion, its view of Pentecost is too low, and that its understanding of the significance of Pentecost in redemptive history differs from the Apostles’ understanding of that experience."

    Undervaluing Pentecost
    Earlier this month, Dr. R.C. Sproul spoke at the Strange Fire conference and specifically addressed the redemptive historical significance of Pentecost. Dr. Sproul's encounters in the 1960's with some involved in the charismatic movement and his study of Scripture have convinced him that the Pentecostal view of the Day of Pentecost is in fact a distortion that presents a low view of Pentecost, not a high one.

  • A DAVID MUSING

    GOD AND POLITICS DON’T MIX!

    With the end of the Trump Presidency we are clearly seeing, yet again, another, extreme example of Christians being taken in by a leader who is manipulating them for his own advantage.

    Even though they will deny it many, especially those of Pentecostal/Charismatic persuasion, who have placed President Trump next to God, primarily because he has supported many of the causes they are passionately interested in eg. abortion, support of Israel - and no gun control, although it has nothing to do with Christianity.

    By taking a conservative Christian viewpoint on these and many other issues, He was proclaimed as being from God, whom would certainly give him two terms. Many Christians idolized him and can’t believe that he could be beaten, other than by fraud.

    This has been amplified by the likelihood of the Biden/Harris policies being seen as ungodly, which many of them are. For many then, their objections are more related to fear of the incoming team’s policies, rather than the election itself.

    The supposed ‘Christian Prophets’ had almost unanimously, out of a human spirit, prophesied Trump’s return, as a matter of course, from their prospective, for the good things he had done.

    Here is an example of one, and the harsh reaction to him, who has now repented of his error…..

    Evangelical prophet Jeremiah Johnson said he’s now getting death threats from Christians after apologizing to his followers Thursday for “inaccurately prophesying” that President Donald Trump would win a second term.

    The most telling part however, has been the reactions of many Christians to his admission……

    Johnson, who also called out Christians for their idolatry of the outgoing president, revealed in a statement on Facebook Sunday that the attacks have shown him that “parts of the prophetic/charismatic movement are far SICKER than I could have ever dreamed of.”

    “Over the last 72 hours, I have received multiple death threats and thousands upon thousands of emails from Christians saying the nastiest and most vulgar things I have ever heard toward my family and ministry. I have been labeled a coward, sellout, a traitor to the Holy Spirit, and cussed out at least 500 times. We have lost ministry partners every hour and counting,” said the leader of Jeremiah Johnson Ministries.

    “I have been flabbergasted at the barrage of continued conspiracy theories being sent every minute our way and the pure hatred being unleashed. To my great heartache, I’m convinced parts of the prophetic/charismatic movement are far SICKER than I could have ever dreamed of,” he explained. “I truthfully never realized how absolutely triggered and ballistic thousands and thousands of saints get about Donald Trump. It’s terrifying! It’s full of idolatry! If I helped to prop up this ideology concerning him, I will need to repent again and stir up even more hell.”

    His solution…..

    “Revival is never dependent upon who sits in the White House but rather who sits on the Throne in Heaven. I will continue to preach the Cross and the power of the resurrection. I will continue to help prepare the Bride to meet our Bridegroom,” he noted. “As we head into 2021, expect me to be more committed to the gospel and making disciples than ever before. By God’s grace I will walk in a greater measure of humility and repentance than ever before. I will learn from my mistakes and seek correction from Godly leaders always.”

    There are many other examples of where Christian parties have ended disastrously, and the reputation of Christians as a whole, has suffered immensely. In my home country of New Zealand, in more recent times, 2 Christian parties have formed and both have collapsed due to the sexual wrongdoings of the leader.

    The problem is, power corrupts – and absolute power corrupts absolutely!

    Russian Pentecostals Took the Road
    Increasingly the word that came to Peter Vashchenko's mind early in the 1960s was Doroga-- "the road." He must find a road out of the atheistic Soviet Union. Did not the Bible warn, "Come out of her, my people, lest you take part in her sins"? Y...

  • South Bay United Pentecostal Church v Newsom denial of hearing is a travesty. The entire issue fails to address the fundamentals of civil liberties, the public good , and the use of emergency authority.

    1. Does the perception of an emergency constitute an emergency? Can civil liberties be suspended because of what someone thinks could happen? Does an emergency require the actual evidence of one?

    2. Does an emergency extend legislative authority to the executive? In Article IV, Clause 4, the Constitution extends authority to the executive when the legislature cannot be convened during "Domestic Violence". Where COVID is not "Domestic Violence" the thinking is telling. Given the level of technology (especially in reference to communications) when cannot the legislature be convened?

    3. Civil Liberties. What takes precedence. The governments interests or the citizens interest? The answer should always lean heavily towards the citizen.

    From Roman Catholic Diocese of Brooklyn v. Cuomo

    “The loss of First Amendment freedoms, for even minimal periods of time, unquestionably constitutes irrep-arable injury.”

    " But even in a pandemic,the Constitution cannot be put away and forgotten. The re-strictions at issue here, by effectively barring many from attending religious services, strike at the very heart of the First Amendment’s guarantee of religious liberty. Before allowing this to occur, we have a duty to conduct a serious examination of the need for such a drastic measure."

  • PENTECOSTAL HYMN

    COME, heavenly Spirit, come!
    Kind Father of the poor;
    The Giver and the gift,
    Enter my lowly door!
    Be guest within my heart,
    Nor ever hence depart.

    Thou the eternal Truth,
    Into dark hearts steal in,
    True Light, give light to souls
    Sunk in the night of sin;
    True Strength, put forth Thy power
    For us in evil hour!

    Ours is a world of wiles,
    Of beauteous vanities;
    Come, and in us destroy
    Its fair impurities,
    Lest by its tempting arts
    From Thee it steal our hearts!

    Unveil Thy glorious self
    To us, O Holy One,
    That Thou into our hearts
    May shine, Thyself alone!
    Saved from earth’s vanities,
    To Thee we long to rise.

    Renew us, Holy One!
    O purge us in Thy fire;
    Refine us, heavenly flame,
    Consume each low desire;
    Prepare us as a sacrifice,
    Well-pleasing in Thine eye;

    Far from Thee we have lived,
    Exiles from home and Thee;
    Oh bring us back in love!
    End our captivity.
    Be Thou the way we wend,
    Be Thou that way’s blest end!

    Glory to the Father be,
    Glory to the equal Son,
    Glory to the Spirit be,
    Glory to the Three in One!
    Spirit, ’tis Thy breath divine
    Makes these hearts to burn and shine.
