    I live in both a big urban city AND it's in the middle of the desert, so you can bet that this is something I've been thinking of... with some ingenuity, you can survive or even thrive when things get bad.

    In my situation, if the worst case scenario were to hit, I'd probably be hunting ducks or pigeons with a sling shot and harvesting brush and wood to use as fuel to distill water from the dirty ass river that runs next to my house, or using the river water to fill the toilet tank... But I'd be surviving without an empty stomach.

    I've even flushed out how I'd get by in the full scale zombie apocalypse to the point where some days I wonder if it wouldn't actually be easier than regular life. lol. (mostly joking there.)
    Think of unique skills that you can employ in dark times that don't necessarily require power or gas. Pick up some old world skills like pottery, hunting, knitting, gardening, distilling, woodworking, metal forging, etc.

    Distilling would especially be useful in that you could always find clean water, or create alcohol for fuel, medicine, disinfectants, or just booze to forget the troubles. Alcohol would also be a great trade item to function in communities where others may have access to things you need.

    Chart your survival strategies now so your not caught off guard. Chances are, it won't come to that, but even good times are more productive when you know in the back of your mind that you are covered no matter what.
