United States President Joe Biden said he is "outraged and deeply pained" after seeing the video of the beating that led to the death of the 29-year-old FedEx worker Tyre Nichols on January 10.

"Those who seek justice should not resort to violence or destruction. Violence is never acceptable; it is illegal and destructive. I join Mr. Nichols’ family in calling for peaceful protest," Biden noted in a statement released by the White House. The footage, which came out earlier today, shows Memphis police beating Nichols for three minutes while inappropriately yelling at him.
