There's a little donut spot open all night near my house. With a random late night sweet tooth, I took a trip there to get a donut, maybe a sandwich or something.

When I get there, the little old Asian dude behind the counter seemed spry and friendly. The picture menu on the wall featured all sorts of donuts, and what was listed as "Asian sandwiches."

I ordered the number one, BBQ beef sandwich. I asked the guy "So, what kind of 'Asian' is this sandwich?" And he replies, "Asian sandwich! Don't worry, you'll like it!"

So I respond saying "I'm sure I will, but just out of curiosity, what part of Asia does this style of sandwich come from? Is it like... Korean BBQ or something?"

The guy gave me sort of a quirked eyebrow and a half smile that was cryptic and hard to read. He then smiled and said "Vietnamese."

I said "Ah, alright! Sounds good!"

After picking out a few choice donuts to bring home to the ol lady, The guy proceeded to ring me up and with a thick accent said,

"Your sandwich will take about ten minutes. While you wait, read this."

From behind the counter, he pulled out an old yellowed page from a newspaper. He used his hand to highlight the sections that he wanted me to read. "Read from here to here, (flipped the page over) and then read all of this here."

Not really knowing what to expect, I said, "Ok, sure, I'll give it a read then."

He said "Yeah! Yeah! You read! Sandwich will be ready shortly."

So I sat down and proceeded to read the analog version of the story published in the link below:

By the time I was done, I was grinning from ear to ear!

I approached the counter to pick up my finished sandwich, and as I picked it up, I said "Hell yea, man! Fight the commies! America needs badass dudes like you!"

Smiling bashfully and looking down and to the side, he said "thank you, thank you."

I'm a fan! This is my go-to donut shop from now on! Aside from this guy being an American legendary badass, the donuts are some of the best I've tried too!
