Good morning brothers and sisters and it is during some very interesting times that I write this to you. It seems like some people are not being judged rightly. We have politicians and leaders who are seemingly getting away with murder in our world. We also have some needlessly losing their lives for sharing the truth such as the Former Prime Minister of Japan. He was outspoken about the need for Taiwan to remain its own sovereign nation. It cost him his life. It makes me wonder what the Smart Book has to say for us today;
Unjust Judgments Rebuked.
A Psalm of Asaph.
82 God stands in the divine assembly;
He judges among the gods (divine beings).
2
How long will you judge unjustly
And show partiality to the wicked? Selah.
3
Vindicate the weak and fatherless;
Do justice and maintain the rights of the afflicted and destitute.
4
Rescue the weak and needy;
Rescue them from the hand of the wicked.
5
The rulers do not know nor do they understand;
They walk on in the darkness [of complacent satisfaction];
All the foundations of the earth [the fundamental principles of the administration of justice] are shaken.
6
I said, “You are [a]gods;
Indeed, all of you are sons of the Most High.
7
“Nevertheless you will die like men
And fall like any one of the princes.”
8
Arise, O God, judge the earth!
For to You belong all the nations.
Footnotes
a. Psalm 82:6 Most of the ancient rabbis understood the idea of “gods” referring to judges, but some applied vv 6, 7 to the Israelites at Sinai and maintained that they would have become immortal as a result of accepting the Law, if only they had not committed the sin of the golden calf.
Now we have this guy named Asaph which means Collector, Gatherer that was the head Musician under David and Solomon.
Boy he gathered up some interesting thoughts for us in this Psalm. He seems to think that God has been an unjust Judge, allowing the wicked to get away with their wickedness. He then calls upon God to rescue the weak, fatherless, afflicted, destitute, and needy from the wicked. Boy we could sure use some of that today. I think it could be said that our rulers do not know or understand us. They just keep on walking on in darkness [of complacent satisfaction]. Nothing is wrong in their lives as all the foundations of the earth are shaken. They have no idea about justice for the common man. They act like gods, but they will all die like men; men of dust. God, please come and judge the earth, because all the nations belong to you! Come quickly Lord!
May the Lord bless you and keep you,
Chaplain Loehne
