Joe Biden made a recent post barking on about 'acting now to prevent tragedies,' presumably alluding to trying to make more restrictive gun laws. I posted a response that called for putting guards at schools, like just about every other nation on earth.

Some NPC quipped at me and made some vague assessment about 'common sense gun laws,' the latest buzz-phrase that politicians use to make it seem like something senseless makes sense...

Do we like common sense? Yea? Ok, well, here's some common sense:

We already have common sense gun laws. Go try to buy a gun right now and tell me 'how easy it is.' It's literally easier to obtain one illegally.

Common sense gun laws should recognize that people who are willing to murder are also willing to break 'common sense gun laws.'

You could ban guns across the board nationally and it won't stop the black market; it will strengthen it. Look at how 'common sense drug laws' have worked in a similar manner. Look at gun crime rates in places like CA, NY and IL, who already have very restrictive gun laws. They are the most dangerous places in the US.

With 3d printers or basic metal working tools, one can build a gun out of some plastic and common hardware store parts. I've done it myself just to be educated about it. Not that difficult.

All political positions aside, guns aren't going anywhere, legal or otherwise. It's a lost cause and THAT should be common sense by now.

Therefore, it stands to reason that instead of this abstract and largely unpopular notion of disrespecting the 2nd amendment, we can solve this problem very easily and far more efficiently across the board by simply placing guards in front of schools. EVERY freakin nation on earth does this except ours for some reason.

Notice that mass shooters INVARIABLY hit soft targets that are known to have unarmed people? This will fix that. As soon as a few police or armed security forces are stationed at each school with the sole purpose of protecting that school, you will see a drop in instances where a shooting is even attempted.

In the rare instance that it is attempted, it will be met with force immediately and stopped before such terrible damage can be done.

Every patriotic American who understands the importance of the 2nd amendment will fight tooth and nail to maintain their rights to own weapons, and you KNOW this. The same patriotic Americans will likely volunteer to guard the schools themselves if they would simply be allowed to.

Do we want to have a heated nationwide political debate about rights, or do we want to act quickly and solve this awful problem? Which?

We can argue about gun laws all day, but maybe we should put guards at schools BEFORE we start that discussion?

This is a no-brainer, sir. This is common sense.
