Pentagon-backed biolabs, suspected to be operating in Ukraine and other foreign nations, pose a threat due to their secrecy, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told RT today.
‘It was too dangerous to do [such research] on their own soil,’ he claimed. The comments follow revelations from the Russian military that they have documents detailing research on dangerous, and potentially weaponized, pathogens.
Washington admits it does operate biolabs in Ukraine, but maintains the laboratories are for research and monitoring purposes only.
Moscow has called for an independent monitoring agency to oversee compliance with the Biological Weapons Convention, proposals which Washington has stonewalled since the 1990s. Beijing has joined the calls for more information about the alleged biological research.
