Did Joe Biden dodge the Vietnam War draft?
“Biden received five student draft deferments during this period, with the first coming in late 1963 and the last in early 1968, at the peak of the Vietnam War.[16] In April 1968, he was reclassified by the Selective Service System as not available for service due to having had asthma as a teenager.[16]”

Learned through various Internet sources that the reason Biden did not release his full medical records during the campaign was they would reveal the extent to which he went to avoid military induction once he received his draft notice. Although in his best-selling memoir, “Promises to Keep,” he recounted his active childhood, working as a lifeguard and excelling at high school football, he never mentions asthma. It is alleged that what actually happened was by the time Biden finally got his draft notice in ‘68, he was already a lawyer so knew how to “manipulate the system.” His asthma was not detected during his draft physical but rather Biden appealed his induction by submitting "documentation" from a “private physician” notorious for “discovering” disqualifying features for well-connected patients after they were notified for induction.

I am not a supporter of either Trump or Biden, both draft resistors.

I served during that time, ‘67-'72 with tours in Germany, Vietnam and two years at Ft Jackson.

I do have an issue with the 91% who didn't serve….because someone had to go in their place. I resented Bush dodging by enlisting in the ‘Country Club National Guard’ set. Clinton's multiple deferments as a professional student. Then Trump with his bone spur and the athletic Biden with asthma. During the Vietnam Era, 25 million American males were eligible and 13 million sought and successfully acquired deferments… which meant 9% served and 91% didn't.

I enlisted in 1967. When I was being tested at the AFEES station in Charlotte, the NCO asked for a show of hands of all those who could not read or write…I looked around and saw 25-30 hold up their hands. I couldn't believe the Army would accept illiterate but they were because it was part of Project 100,000, Secretary of Defense McNamara's effort to lower the standards in order to meet recruitment needs. It was referred to as McNamara's Morons. I trained with some in my Basic at Ft Bragg.

Unlike Forest Gump (who was a fictional part of that group in a novel and movie), many didn't survive because of their mental challenges…think more like Bubba instead of Forest.

Project 100,000 - Wikipedia
1960s US military program to enlist persons who were in lower military mental or medical standards Project 100,000 (also McNamara's 100,000 ), also known as McNamara's Folly , McNamara's Morons and McNamara's Misfits , [1] [2] was a controversial 1960s program by the United States Department of Defense (DoD) to recruit soldiers who would previously have been below military mental or medical standards. Project 100,000 was initiated by Defense Secretary Robert McNamara in October 1966 to meet the escalating manpower requirements of the American government's involvement in the Vietnam War . Inductees of the project died at higher rates [1] than other Americans serving in Vietnam and following their service had lower incomes and higher rates of divorce than their non-veteran counterparts. The project was ended in December 1971 [3] and has been the subject of controversy, especially during the manpower shortages of the Iraq War .

Background At various times in its history, the United States military has recruited people who measured below specific mental and medical standards. Those who scored in certain lower percentiles of mental aptitude tests were admitted into service during World War II, though this experience eventually...
