GOD'S WORD FOR TODAY
DAILY DEVOTIONAL
HIS NAME
READ AMOS 1:1 THROUGH 4:13
“What’s in a name?” Shakespeare posed that question in his tragedy Romeo and Juliet. As it turns out, names can be important. In business and social circles, it often matters who you are—and who you know.

He who forms the mountains, who creates the wind, and who reveals his thoughts to mankind, who turns dawn to darkness, and treads on the heights of the earth—the Lord God Almighty is his name (Amos 4:13).

Amos wasn’t a ruler or a member of the priestly order. He was a shepherd and fig farmer (Amos 7:14). The Israelites may have wondered: Who is this guy to preach to us? But the prophet wasn’t just speaking for himself. Amos represented the Creator of the universe. He spoke in the name of “the Lord God Almighty.”

Christians are called to carry the gospel to all nations. But they don’t need big names or influential positions to accomplish this task.

They have access to the name that holds the power of eternal life. Proclaiming the truth in Jesus’ name can change the world.

Thought for Today: Remind yourself throughout the day that you represent the powerful name of Jesus.
