22 SEP 2021- "Today at 14:21 (Ecuador time) the September equinox will take place. This was confirmed by the Quito Astronomical Observatory. The September equinox marks the transition from summer to fall for the Northern Hemisphere and from winter to spring for the Southern Hemisphere. At the poles, the change is much more drastic, going from six months of light to six months of darkness at the North Pole and vice versa at the South Pole. Among the indigenous peoples of the Americas, September 22 is considered the Day of the Straight Sun, because it is the day when the Sun is just above the equator and there is zero shadow. In Quito this phenomenon can be seen, if the summit allows it, in the area of Catequilla, Cochasqui, Rumicucho and Puntiachil.
