GOD'S WORD FOR TODAY
DAILY DEVOTIONAL
RISKING IT ALL
READ 2 KINGS 17:1 THROUGH 18:37
J. W. Tucker, an Assemblies of God missionary, knew trouble was brewing when he and his family headed to the Congo in 1964. He had spent twenty-five years working among a people embittered by civil war and hostile toward outsiders. He didn’t know that a week later the missionaries would be cut off from the outside world, and shortly thereafter he would be beaten to death. Had he known, Tucker still might have risked it all to spread the Word of God.

[King Hezekiah] held fast to the Lord and did not stop following him; he kept the commands the Lord had given Moses. And the Lord was with him (2 Kings 18:6–7).

King Hezekiah was full of courage and confidence in God. He didn’t know if his destruction of idols would cause a civil war in his country or if his rebellion toward the king of Assyria would invite a military attack. But Hezekiah was so confident in God that he was willing to risk everything to serve Him. Christians today need that same confidence in God.

Prayer for Today: Father, help me trust You so deeply that I will risk everything for You.

Quicklook: 2 Kings 18:1–8
