Happy weekend everyone. As I write this it is November 21, 2020. It is exactly 400 years since the signing of the Mayflower Compact. 409 years since the King James Version of the Bible was published. The average man could now read the Bible for himself. The Pilgrims did not agree with the Church of England, which was only once removed from the Roman Catholic Church. They had journeyed to the New World for some basic freedoms. Freedom of Religion primarily, but also of speech (expression), and of the ability to own property. They still swore to rule of the crown, but under these new conditions in a new land. They were ceded land from the crown, but they landed several hundred miles North of said land, so they realized the need for a new government for where they were. So let's see what the Smart Book has to us this weekend;
Psalm 100 New Revised Standard Version
1 Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth.
2 Worship the Lord with gladness; come into his presence with singing.
3 Know that the Lord is God. It is he that made us, and we are his; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, bless his name.
5 For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.
Wow speak of freedom of expression, make a joyful noise to the Lord. Worship the Lord with gladness; come into presence with singing.
This week we have Thanksgiving Day and the text tells us to enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise. Give thanks to him, and bless his name. For the Lord is good; his steadfast love for us endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.
Yes, be thankful to the Lord for all things. Especially the freedoms we still have as nation under God. Pray for us and our future. Pray that we will continue to be able to worship and express our faith freely. Pray that we will continue to bless other nations with His truth and love.
The Lord bless and keep you, His face shine upon you,
